Colon and Rectal Cancer Symptoms

About Us

Many people with colon cancer do not have symptoms at first, but when they do appear, they often depend on the cancer’s size and location in the large intestine. Common signs can include changes in bowel habits like frequent diarrhea or constipation, rectal bleeding or blood in the stool, ongoing abdominal discomfort such as cramps, gas, or pain, a feeling that the bowel doesn’t completely empty, unexplained weakness or tiredness, and unintended weight loss. If you notice changes in your bowel habits or discomfort, Advocare Colon & Rectal Surgical Specialists is here to answer your questions and determine if you need further medical assistance.

We are dedicated to helping you better understand colon and rectal health while providing exceptional medical care. Our team of board-certified experts is highly trained in both general surgery and the advanced treatment of colon and rectal conditions, offering both surgical and nonsurgical solutions tailored to your needs.

We encourage you to explore the wide range of conditions we treat and reach out to schedule an appointment. Together, we’ll work towards improving your health and well-being.

Exercise and Colon Cancer

According to a report published in the British Journal of Cancer, authors looked at 20 studies with 250,000 participants and found that regular exercise can lower colon cancer risk. Physical activity reduced the chance of developing colon polyps by 16% and advanced polyps by 30%. Exercise may help by boosting immunity, reducing bowel inflammation, and lowering insulin levels. While age, gender, and family history can’t be controlled, lifestyle changes matter. Learn more about exercise and colon cancer.

Open Access Colonoscopy

Advocare Colon & Rectal Surgical Specialists is proud to be the first in South Jersey to introduce the  Open Access Colonoscopy program, created to simplify routine colonoscopies for patients in overall good health. With this program, patients simply watch a short video, fill out a few forms, and return them by mail or fax. The scheduling team then reviews the information to determine whether an office visit is needed or if patients can go straight to the procedure. By cutting down on time, costs, and extra steps, this convenient option makes it easier than ever to take care of your health.
